Multimedia Journalism
In an era of digital transformation and evolving media consumption, multimedia journalism has become the cornerstone of modern journalism. CMR Nepal Journalism Academy, in partnership with Interlink Academy, Germany, offers a comprehensive multimedia journalism training designed specifically for experienced Nepali journalists.
This intensive course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on production experience, providing you with the essential skills to create compelling stories across multiple platforms. Whether you’re covering breaking news, producing feature stories, or developing investigative pieces, you’ll learn to utilize the power of video, audio, photography, and interactive elements to engage audiences in today’s digital landscape.
Course Curriculum
Our curriculum covers the complete multimedia journalism ecosystem, from basic storytelling principles to advanced production techniques. You’ll learn what multimedia journalism is, why it’s essential for modern newsrooms, and develop the practical skills needed to create impactful stories that resonate across different media platforms.
The training will cover the following key areas:
- Story Planning and Research – Developing multimedia story concepts and conducting comprehensive research
- Video Production – Camera operation, shooting techniques, and visual storytelling principles
- Audio Production – Recording, editing, and producing compelling audio content and podcasts
- Photography and Visual Storytelling – Capturing powerful images and creating photo narratives
- Writing for Multimedia – Crafting engaging scripts and web-optimized content
- Editing and Post-Production – Using mobile software for video, audio, and photo editing
- Ethics and Legal Considerations – Navigating multimedia journalism ethics and copyright issues
Course Structure
Our unique program features a streamlined approach designed for working journalists. The training consists of an intensive six-day face-to-face session in Kathmandu, followed by a seven-week online phase. This structure allows you to produce multimedia content in real-world situations while maintaining your current work commitments.
- First attendance phase: 6 days, 9am to 5pm, for learning fundamental multimedia production and storytelling techniques
- E-Learning phase: 6 weeks, 6-8 hours a week commitment to create multimedia projects and receive feedback
- Second attendance phase: 6 days, 9am to 5pm, for repeating fundamental multimedia production and storytelling techniques and learning good-to-have skills
Certificates will be awarded only to participants who attend all training days and complete the online coursework including a final multimedia project.
Fellowships for Selected Journalists
This course is completely free for selected participants through Interlink Academy fellowships. All selected participants will receive full scholarships that cover course fees, training materials, equipment usage, meals during attendance phases, and for participants from outside Kathmandu Valley, travel and accommodation expenses are also covered by the Academy.
Course Participants
This fundamental course is ideal for mid-career Nepali journalists with at least three years of experience. No prior multimedia production experience is required – this training is designed for professionals who have little to no background in multimedia journalism but are ready to expand their storytelling capabilities across different media formats.
